Working on an awesome project at Kennedy Space Centre, you will join our client who serves the infrastructure; Nuclear, Security & Environmental; Energy; Mining & Metals, and the Manufacturing and Technology markets.
We are seeking a highly skilled Avionics Integration Technicians and an Avionics Lead Technician to join their dynamic team of experts.
- Avionics Integration Supervisors/Engineers- Your role will involve supervising technicians, inspecting, and testing avionics assembly’s integral to various spaceflight systems.
- Avionics Integration Technicians- Your role will involve fabricating, inspecting, and testing avionics assembly’s integral to various spaceflight systems.
These roles would start in a shop environment on the Space Coast or Western Florida and transition into the field at Kennedy Space Centre.
Avionics Technicians I-Ill are responsible for fabricating wire harnesses and cables used in electrical and electronic equipment systems for space system components for the programs. Technicians are also responsible for assembling of complex electromechanical projects. As the Avionics Technician, your contributions will be critical to ensuring safe, consistent, and groundbreaking advancements in human spaceflight.
Responsibilities include:
- Carrying out the installation of avionic components and systems, ensuring reliability and compliance with design specifications.
- Following instructions from work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine necessary materials and the assembly sequence.
- Installing components such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), relays, contactors, switches, and terminal blocks in panel enclosures, while assembling cables, buses, and electromechanical systems.
- Interpreting work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to identify required materials and assembly steps.
- Measuring, cutting, soldering, and crimping wires and contacts to fabricate wire harnesses.
- Conducting detailed installations, including complex cable harness configurations, while ensuring all avionic installations meet safety and quality standards. Inspecting, testing, and verifying avionics assemblies based on technical models, drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Troubleshooting avionic system issues and performing necessary modifications, rework, repairs, or maintenance to resolve malfunctions.
- Ensuring optimal performance of avionics systems through thorough inspections, cleanings, measurements, and testing activities.
- Adhering to quality management system standards, requirements, and procedures.
- Collaborating with teams to execute in-field harness installations.
- Leading continuous improvement initiatives for avionic installation processes, focusing on safety and operational efficiency.
- Fostering a collaborative team environment, effectively managing multiple priorities and adapting to rapidly changing project demands.
- Treating all team members with respect and dignity, ensuring a culture of collaboration is consistently maintained and developed.
Skills/experience required includes:
- An associate degree in a related field is preferred, though relevant experience may be considered in place of formal education.
- A minimum of three- five years of experience as an electrical or cable fabrication technician, or in a related field. Candidates with more extensive experience may be eligible for a higher-level Avionics Technician role.
- Prior experience with wire crimping, connector soldering, and working with engineering drawings, wire diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite/365, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Experience in avionics manufacturing and operating related test equipment, with expertise in assembling cable harnesses for harsh environments.
- Capable of reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, MIL-DTL-22520, NASA-STD-8739, J-STD-001, and ANSI/ESD S20.20.
- Skilled in using measurement tools and understanding basic mathematical concepts.
- Dedicated to delivering high-quality products and services that meet or exceed customer expectations, with a focus on continuously improving service quality.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Due to the secure nature of the project, US Citizens are required for the position.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check, including verification of employment history and education.
- Must have the physical ability to perform field inspections and participate in project walkdowns, which involve extensive walking in and around shops and construction sites, climbing ladders and scaffolding, navigating elevated platforms and uneven surfaces, entering small or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
Shift/Schedule:
• This position is for the day shift generally working 7:00am - 5:30pm, which includes two 15-minute break and 30-minute unpaid lunch.
Desired qualifications:
- Additional technical training or industry certifications are preferred, including trade school education, a degree in a related field, or prior military experience.
- A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing role within the aerospace or a similar industry, with a focus on avionics or harness fabrication.
- Demonstrated success as a hands-on technical leader.
- Ability to work efficiently with a strong work ethic and attention to detail in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities.
- Background in electromechanical systems and assembly.
- Certified in IPC J-Std-001 and/or IPC-620, with NASA space addendum 8739.4 certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
- Capable of collaborating with diverse teams and individuals to achieve common goals by fostering trust, respect, and cooperation, while maintaining positive professional relationships and contributing to a culture of inclusion.
